Bernd Sagasser, Partner of Marccus Partners (Paris), participated in the Mazars Seminar on “Doing Business Sustainably: Human Rights Compliance” 20 October 2010 – Jakarta, Indonesia
In the light of the increasing awareness of business communities across the globe of the relevance of Human Rights Compliance to their operations, Mazars in Indonesia initiated and sponsored a Human Rights Compliance Seminar aimed at helping business leaders to better understand the importance of human rights to their businesses and to move in the right direction.
Five high-profile speakers participated in the event:
- Dr. Homayoun Alizadeh, the Regional Representative for the South-East Asia Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR),
- Lieut General Agus Widjojo, Chairman of the National Institute for Democratic Governance,
- Nur Kholis, Deputy Chairman – External Relations – Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights (KOMNAS HAM),
- Dr. Bernd Sagasser, Attorney-of-law, Partner of Marccus Partners and
- Marzuki Darusman, Senior Advisor Mazars Asia Pacific, who was also recently appointed Director of the Human Rights Research Center for ASEAN (HRRCA).
No less than 75 representatives of corporations, government institutions, NGOs, State-owned enterprises and media participated in this seminar, which was moderated by James Kallman, President Director of Mazars in Indonesia.
The seminar concluded that Human Rights Compliance is a powerful strategy for corporations to conduct their business in a sustainable manner and legitimise their operations. The event itself provided strong visibility for Mazars as one of the first organisations to take the lead in ensuring human rights compliance.
